They say there’s strength in numbers… and we couldn’t agree more! Training for the Nov. 10 HCA Virginia 8k can be a challenge, but doing it in a group setting with a crew of supportive coaches and teammates is sure to get you to the finish line. As you work your way through our 8-week program – catered to runners and walkers of all abilities – you’ll quickly realize how fun (yes, FUN!) training can be and how easy it is to make new friends. So take some time for yourself, your health, and your social life and meet us Sept. 15 at one of our five convenient locations. Lace ‘em up, folks – it’s time to get moving!

The first day (Saturday, September 15), there will be a brief introductory meeting at 7:30 a.m. followed by your first group run. Afterwards, you will receive a training booklet with the complete 8-week training schedule. You will continue to meet each Saturday for group runs, while the rest of the week you simply follow the guide on your own. Many times, training teamers meet up with each other during the week as time permits, so don’t be afraid to ask around!

Veteran Coach Dan Blankenship will lead the Sports Backers 8k Training team. You may recognize him from the 10k Training Team, which he’s coached for the last ten years. Dan is a pro at this distance and will motivate you to walk or run the HCA Virginia 8k with a smile on your face! His extensive background in running includes finishing 18 marathons, 10 half marathons and numerous 10k and 5k races. A certified USA Track and Field coach, he has also served with the Sports Backers Marathon Training Team and Richmond Road Runners Club.
