Sports Tourism Grant Program

One of the keys to making our region the most active community in the country is to have successful sports tourism events. Not just events that happen once… We’re talkin’ sustainable and impactful events that happen in our city annually.

That’s where you come in. The Sports Backers Sports Tourism Grant Program involves a competitive bid process where local non-profit organizations and sports groups submit grant requests to aid their efforts to attract visitors from outside Richmond as participants and spectators to their sports events. If your event might fit these citeria, check out our RFP for more information.

Why do we do this? Because these events bring in revenue for our very own local sports organizations and give Richmonders a chance to take part in great events happening in their own backyard – two things that we think are really important.

Program goal:
To increase the quality of sports tourism events and the number of out of town participants and spectators they draw to the Richmond region.

Who is eligible?
Local non-profit organizations and sports groups that own or host annual events.
