JOB OPPORTUNITIES:

Marathon Training Team SAG Position

Sports Backers is looking for an energetic, organized and reliable individual to work as a part-time program coordinator for the Sports Backers Marathon Training Team. 

The responsibilities will include being on-site during the long runs to provide water and PowerAde on most Saturday or Sunday mornings from June 1 until November 10, 2013 as well as providing support at the Anthem Richmond Marathon on November 16, 2013.  The coordinator will prepare the water, PowerAde and other supplies in advance for all of the water stops during the weekend long runs.  The position also includes organizing t-shirt and performance shirt deliveries and working closely with volunteer coaches providing support. 

The total time commitment will increase as the training team runs become longer, but will average around 4-10 hours/week.  This is a paid position.

Internship Introduction

The Sports Backers have three internship positions available per term. Terms follow Fall, Spring and Summer seasons. Schedules are as follows and can be flexible based on an individual’s academic calendar.  Oh, did we mention they were PAID?!

Each internship position listed below requires an outgoing, self-motivated individual who possess effective communication skills, both verbal and written. Each position will require weekend and evening work surrounding our event schedule.

PR/Communications Intern
  • Assist the Public Relations & Marketing department with day-to-day promotion of Sports Backers events.
  • Assist with the management of the Sports Backers’ social media outlets. This includes increasing frequency of interaction, brainstorming contest ideas, and keeping the content fresh.
  • Research relevant stories and articles to feature in our e-newsletter, PULSE.
  • Write articles and press releases related to Sports Backers events and people participating in them.
  • Assist in monitoring the performance of digital advertisements.

Applicants are asked to submit a writing sample along with cover letter and resume.

Event Promotions Intern
  • Assist the Marketing department with grassroots promotional efforts.
  • Distribute brochures and posters at all of the local running stores, bike stores and community boards at area restaurants, coffee shops, grocers, etc.
  • Attend a scheduled set of non-Sports Backers owned events in an effort to promote our events to those participants.

* This position will not be a standard work week and will require both evening and weekend work outside of our own event weekends.

Event Management Intern
  • Assist full-time staff with day-to-day operations and event planning.
  • Answer incoming calls and assist in answering inquiries about the Sports Backers and our events.
  • Assist with mail-in registration input for all events.
  • Manage projects for events and serve on the event committee.
  • Assist with the set-up and breakdown of events both on-site and in the warehouse.
  • Assist with projects in the areas of marketing, event development and sponsorship/development as needed.
